Google employees are already testing out the latest Android OS on the Nexus S smartphone, before it gets released to the public.
Some posted reactions on Twitter or Google+. They’ve since been removed, but Android Police reconstructed them.
“Yeah an [over-the-air], but it's an early one for Google employees so we test it further so it's even more awesome when you guys get it. So sadly I can't comment on it more at this time...”
The employees are testing the OS in a semi-contained environment, looking for things that need fixing before it goes live. Engadget explains-- and it’s enough to make you hungry.
“The company hopes its employees will discover any lingering foul tastes before delivering its frozen treat onto the unwashed masses, although early reports suggest they're digging the flavors.”
Google has yet to pin a release date to Ice Cream Sandwich, but PCWorld is optimistic.
“It could still take weeks or months before the update … is released. Considering all the hype, expect it to be sooner rather than later.”
The Verge wonders-- just how soon?
“... the only question is, will the Nexus S be the first handset in America to have Android 4.0, since Verizon's Galaxy Nexus is still nowhere to be seen?”
When Ice Cream Sandwich goes live, it will be in an over-the-air update to compatible phones across all the big carriers.
