According to a new survey-- if God were a politician, he--or she-- would have some campaigning to do. Newser explains.

“The left-leaning Public Policy Polling has finally asked the big question: ‘If God exists, do you approve or disapprove of its performance?’ Some 52% approve of the job God is doing; 9% disapprove; and 40% are unsure.”

The poll, which surveyed 928 people, was part of a larger survey assessing American approval of members of Congress. But it wasn’t all bad news for the so-called “Man upstairs.” According to the Huffington Post the head holy honcho fared much better on “bread and butter” issues.

“When asked to rate God on the creation of the universe, 71 percent of voters approved and only 5 percent disapproved. Respondents were also generally appreciative of God's governance of the ‘animal kingdom,’ with 56 percent approving and 11 percent disapproving.”

And according to The Atlantic -- even with the dubious totals, the Supreme One is still faring far better than mere mortals.

“...God is still more popular than House Speaker John Boehner and both Republicans and Democrats in Congress, all of whom polled at 33 percent in the same poll... President Obama's approval rating...wasn't measured in the PPP poll. But the Real Clear Politics average makes it look close to Godliness at 46 percent.”

But according to The Raw Story, Public Policy Polling has a history of questionable questions.

“The same polling firm recently found that 44 percent of Republicans thought President Barack Obama would not be taken to Heaven in the Rapture, while 37 percent were not sure.”

Others, however, believe the numbers are telling and possibly -- higher than they should be. Here’s what Rabbi Schmuly Boteach told CNN.

“I’m surprised that God’s approval rating was so high. I mean, 50% of people approve of God’s handling of natural disasters? I mean, he is God. He should be able to prevent these things. I think there’s a tendency on the part of the faithful to defend God at all costs but sometimes at the expense of humanity.”
