Google has re-released Gmail for iOS devices, two weeks after the application’s fumbled debut.
Google pulled the app hours after it was first launched to address persistent notification bugs and error messages. Now it says the problems have been solved.
But the app is still pretty spare. VentureBeat wonders if it’s even necessary anymore.
“Unfortunately, bugs were just a fraction of what was disappointing about the Gmail iPhone app. Even with those glaring errors fixed, it is still an [sic] slightly tricked-out version of Gmail’s mobile web app.”
Google says future versions of the application are coming soon, to add much-requested functionality.
“In the short time the app was public we received a lot of helpful feedback and feature requests. We’re just getting started with the Gmail app for iOS and will be iterating rapidly to bring you more features...”
But Silicon Filter wonders-- again, what’s the hurry? Google should have taken its time.
“Even though the major bugs are fixed now, the app still feels unnecessarily rushed. There was no real pressure on Google to get this app out, so why not wait until these features were ready?”
Google says if users still have the old Gmail app, they should uninstall it before upgrading.
