Even though the Giants’ season has been over for a month, news on Tuesday gave San Francisco fans something new to cheer about. ESPN has the story.
“Bryan Stow, the San Francisco Giants fan who was severely beaten outside Dodger Stadium, has been released from the hospital and transferred to a rehab facility. Rehab is a step forward in his recovery after he had been in the hospital for over 7 months.”
Stow suffered severe brain injuries allegedly at the hands of Dodgers fans. Doctors at the Los Angeles County Medical Center removed half of Stow’s skull to save his life. But according to the San Francisco Chronicle, doctors say his recovery is no miracle.
“[It’s] in part a testament to his strength and relative youth, as well as his family's attention and support.”
A blogger for Yahoo! Sports says Stow’s progress is encouraging, but we can’t forget what brought us to this point.
“Sadly, this man will never be the same and will never have a normal life again, simply because he was wearing Giants gear and may have talked smack to the wrong people... No amount of smack talking would justify the beating.”
A writer for CSN says if Stow’s progress continues, he’ll have something to look forward next Opening Day.
“Stow was invited by [Manager Bruce] Bochy to throw out the first pitch at San Francisco's 2012 season. When family members told Stow that thousands of people were looking forward to him throwing out the ceremonial first pitch in 2012, Stow said, "I'm there."
Police have arrested two Los Angeles men accused of the assault. Both men have pleaded not guilty to charges of mayhem, assault and battery.
