There’s a new couple in town, but don’t worry—you won’t be reading about them in the tabloids.
Financial News has the scoop.
“General Motors and LG Group will join forces in design and engineer future electric vehicles, expanding a relationship built on LG's work as the battery cell supplier for the Chevrolet Volt and Opel Ampera extended-range electric vehicles.”
So they’ve been in cahoots for awhile now—but Wall Street Journal says --
“The deal is a first-of-its-kind pairing between an auto maker and electronics giant in vehicle design and engineering. LG will cover roughly half the cost of creating a future portfolio of electric and hybrid vehicles and then become GM’s supplier on anything the companies create together…”
Sounds like a happy home for the two—but what about the customers? GM Vice Chairman, Steve Girsky tells USA Today—they aren’t being left out.
"Consumers benefit by getting the latest fuel-saving technology faster if we work with the best suppliers and we save time and money in the development process.”
But will it get here before more people start flipping the switch on to electric motors?
Business News Factor highlights a study conducted earlier this year saying 78 percent of U.S. consumer will be on the look-out for electric cars once gas reaches $5 a gallon-- it's already at $3.50.
