This week marks the second month of the Occupy Wall Street protests.  But a Gallup poll -- published Tuesday -- says the majority of Americans blame another source for their economic woes.  Fox Business has those stats.

“This poll taken over the weekend shows 64% of Americans blame the federal government. Only 30% who think that Wall Street, the big financial institutions are to blame for our economic problems.”

An analyst for MSNBC says the poll results show Wall Street Occupiers where they should direct their message if they really want change.

“The fact that people are focused, their anger is more at Washington than Wall Street, I think should be a message that while it is great to have everyone that's angry under one umbrella but ultimately they are going to have to focus their attention on Washington to get something changed, to get a win on the board to show their voices have been heard.”

As Chicago’s WLS reports, there is still a fair amount of blame bearing on Wall Street’s shoulders.

“Here’s how the blame spread goes, 78 percent say wall street bears a great deal or a fair amount of blame for the economy, 87 percent say the same about Washington.”

And a pollster tells USA Today -- Americans agree on Washington as the source of our crisis, but not on what it did wrong.

“‘This crisis coincides with a huge debate over the role of government.’ He says some of the 64% who place primary blame on Washington fault it for too little government regulation, while others blame it for too much regulation.”

As for the protest movement that prompted the poll -- Gallup shows indifference among Americans, with 52% saying they’re neither for or against Occupy Wall Street.
The LA Times says these results shouldn’t be too surprising, as only 56% said they are following the story closely.

“[These numbers are] below the averages for more than 200 news events Gallup said it has tracked since the 1990s.”

The Hill conducted a similar poll earlier this week, citing a third of Americans blaming Wall Street for the financial crisis and recession, and 56 percent blaming Washington.
