I don't think that they are automatically unqualified to serve the public just because they are famous. There are plenty of politicians who try to leverage their office to win fame, which to me seems more dangerous. Both of these men have been very vocal about public policy throughout their careers and have advocated for the public good while in Hollywood, there is no reason to think they wouldn't do the same thing in Washington.

I think both will change the other. What people seem to forget is that comedians aren't class clowns. Class clowns are just goofy. Comedians are funny, but they also have to take their business seriously or they won't last long. Personally, I feel more comfortable with comedians in politics, because they've proved they can stand pressure.

Although I can see problems "allowing" celebrities to step into the political realm, I don't think it is as dastardly as some seem to think it is. The American people look up to celebrities. They try to emulate them. Would it be so bad, then for celebrities to get people more interested in politics? I don't think so. More people, or the people that I know, know what is going on BECAUSE of Jon Stewart. He isn't hindering the business, he is just making it a little more interesting. Maybe that is what Franken and Penn are doing in their own respect?!

I don't really mind when someone already in the public eye goes into politics because they are held more accountable than most politicians in the first place. Politics is such a life long career now that when politicians are finally elected to influential positions, they have to spend most of there time and influence repaying those that got them there. At least this way, with celebrities, they are held accountable and maybe not scratching as many backs behind closed doors.
