Four California men are in federal custody Tuesday for their involvement in a terror plot. Here’s WNYW with the details.

"Police say they have busted a terror plot in California this morning. They have arrested four men accused of plotting to blow up government facilities here and overseas."

The Associated Press reports the terrorist plot came to light after a federal complaint was unsealed Monday. WNAC says the men were in contact with terrorist organizations in Afghanistan.

An FBI spokeswoman says the men were plotting with al-Qaeda and the Taliban to bomb government facilities in an attempt to kill Americans overseas. She also says two of the men told an FBI source they planned to engage in 'violent jihad'.

According to CNN, the ring leader supposedly recruited the others after introducing two of them to radical and violent Islamic doctrine and various extremist material. CNN reports one of the men told FBI agents in an online chat that he wanted to join al-Qaeda — and social media played a part.

“[The men] all posted radical jihad content to their Facebook page, the court documents allege. But Kabir's page in particular contained multiple links to and videos by al-Awlaki, videos depicting mujahideen fighters in Afghanistan, improvised explosive devices and suicide bombings.”

KTLA reports the men made their first appearance before a federal judge Monday afternoon. If they are convicted the four will each face up to 15 years in federal prison.
