Busted -- for playing doctor -- inside a hospital.
17-year-old Matthew Scheidt is behind bars after he was reportedly caught posing as a 23-year-old physician’s assistant. ABC News notes -- he didn’t stop at dressing the part.
“For two weeks, Scheidt had access to the hospital seeing patients, viewing confidential charts, changing an IV, even performing chest compressions on a patient in cardiac arrest.”
Scheidt didn’t stop until he went the full Monty.
“The police report shows the 17-year-old performed exams on naked men. That he dressed and changed bandages.”
How’d he go so far? The New York Daily News explains.
“First, he told emergency room personnel that he was a 23-year-old student from Nova University who was there to shadow physicians' assistants. With the faked creds, he helped review patient information and attended consultations. The young impersonator raised red flags when he began asking for more access to the hospital.”
Outlandish? Bold? Well -- The Sun Sentinel notes, it’s not the first time Scheidt has gone under disguise.
“Last year Scheidt had been bounced out of the Osceola County Sheriff's Explorer program for repeatedly wearing equipment that might mislead the public into believing he was a deputy, records show. Catch him if you can...”
The Osceola Regional Medical Center tells WESH-TV -- it’s investigating the matter.
“The hospital released a statement just moments ago saying, quote, ‘our initial review of patient charts indicated that patients treated in the ER during this time, got the medical care they needed.”
But a personal injury lawyer tells The Orlando Sentinel -- that may not be enough to protect the hospital.
"They’re going to have real problems if somebody got hurt as a result of this kid... There’s being duped and there’s being stupid… If this is their level of competence, God help anybody who goes there for other matters."
