An X Factor group makes history overseas.

The all girls quartet Little Mix became the first group to grab the title of X Factor champion in the UK. The group was formed by four previously eliminated solo artists. Here’s a sample of their sound-

SINGING: “What’s it gonna be? ‘Cuz I can’t p3retend. Don’t you wanna be more than friends? Hold me tight and don’t let go. Don’t let go.” (ITN/The X Factor)

After judges Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole walked away from the show, media outlets expected the eighth season to be a wash. But Metro clears up rumors surrounding the show’s supposed “low ratings.”

“...X Factor repeatedly fought back and has managed to maintain its title as the most-watched show on television, with the series ultimately proving to be the third most successful in the show's eight-year history.”

The network released the viewer voting numbers, revealing Little Mix earned the most consistent results week-to-week. Still, The Telegraph says-- competition was close.

“The figures also show that the competition was far tighter than normal. This could bear out criticisms that 2011 was a weak year … However, it could also be argued that this means the all-round standard was solid.”

Even though it took eight years for a group win, Simon Cowell tweeted hopes that Little Mix will prove to American audiences the power of groups.

“Congratulations to @LittleMixOffic”

“I was really hoping a group would win this year … these girls could be stars.”

The Daily Mail reports Cowell, who still executive produces the show, plans to do just that- all over the world.

“The lucrative earnings will make their £150,000 record deal advance seem average, as Simon Cowell plans to make the girls known worldwide … 'People in marketing spend their lives looking for suitable role models. Little Mix are full package. The trick will be knowing what to turn down.'”

Little Mix’s debut single, a cover of Damien Rice’s “Cannonball,” is expected to take the coveted “Christmas Number One” slot on the British charts.
