After spending 16 years with the Packers, quarterback Brett Favre and his new team, the Minnesota Vikings, will host the Green Bay on Monday Night Football.
This is shaping up to be pure drama. We are analyzing fan reaction and the implications of the game.
We are following perspectives from, ESPN, YouTube, The Wausau Daily Herald, CBS Sports and NFL.com.
Angry fans in Green Bay are taking the weekend to burn their old Favre memorabilia. ESPN and YouTube have the perspective.
“A Sportsbar in Western Wisconsin is promising half time entertainment during the game that involves a flaming burn barrel and Brett Favre gear. I could not make it up, $10 goes towards charity for each piece of Favre merchandise that gets tossed into the flames.”
“We are giving fans that are upset at Brett Favre or just want to have a little fun, we are going to give them a burning barrel and let them burn their Favre stuff for a good cause.”
A reporter for The Wausau Daily Herald, went out to get fan opinions and brings these perspectives from Green Bay fans.
“ Umm, humiliate Brett Favre would be my preference because I’m a little scorned by the way he treated the Packers.”
“I’d like to see old cold Brett come out and throw about five or six interceptions, and it can happen because it has before”
“Would you mind seeing Brett get roughed up a little bit and stuff like that?
"I wouldn’t mind”
“I’ve always been a Brett Favre fan, and I just wish him the best wherever he goes. I think it's unfortunate things turned out the way they did. But I’m not gonna turn my back on him. I think a lot of Packers fans did, and I still don't understand, that but I will never turn my back on him."
CBSSports details the meaning of the game for Favre and says that this game is the reason he unretired again.
“This is personal. It sounds like a movie tagline, but it is. For Brett Favre it is completely personal right now. The way that ended, there is still some really bad blood in this equation. Not from Favre necessarily only, coming from the Packers as well. Does he get too juked up? Is he too revved up? And that’s a possibility because let's not forget he wants to play this team. In my mind that’s why he came back, because he wants to get back at the Green Bay Packers.”
And finally a perspective from the legend himself on the big game.
“I feel very good about what I did in Green Bay for 16 years. I wasn’t going to play there forever. It makes for a good story I guess for everyone else...It’s just another game. I never played or would play for quote on quote revenge. It's too long of a season.”
So do you want to see Favre beat his former team? Or are you rooting against him?
