The family of a former FBI agent who went missing in Iran four years ago has finally released the video they received from his captors a year ago.
“Please help me get home. 33 years of service to the United States deserves something.”
Robert Levinson’s family posted a message along with the video, pleading to his kidnappers for more instructions on how to make contact.
Here’s CNN, with an interview with Levinson’s wife.
“We feel that this is a way to try and reach them with our plea and with the video. To get them to let us know what the family needs to do to get Bob home alive, and quickly.”
Levinson was investigating a cigarette smuggling case for a private client in Iran in 2007 when he disappeared. According to The Guardian, this video is the “proof of life” officials reported earlier this year.
“In March this year, Hillary Clinton, the US secretary of state, said some indications suggested Levinson might be alive and held in south-west Asia, and asked Iran to provide information about him.”
Fox News’ Molly Henneberg says the identities of Levinson’s kidnappers remain a mystery and years of working with Iran hasn’t resulted in any leads.
“But this approach by the family to appeal directly to the captors rather than to the government of Iran as they have in the past, suggests the family and the U.S. is changing strategy. Perhaps because of a lack of other leads and also perhaps, Bill, because U.S. relations with Iran have deteriorated so quickly recently."
Hennenberg says some U.S. authorities believe the video indicates a terror group in Pakistan or Afghanistan may be involved in Levinson’s kidnapping, but this could just be a diversion by Iranian intelligence.
