According to All Things D— Facebook will reportedly launch its own app to compete with the popular photo-sharing app, Snapchat that has self-destructible messages.

“A user can send a photo message to another friend… and choose the amount of time the photo will be available for viewing (usually a matter of seconds). After the user views the photo message for the allotted amount of time, the photo deletes itself from the sender’s phone, the receiver’s phone and the Snapchat…servers.”

The Next Web Notes, the introduction of the new app would give Facebook’s current Messenger app a multimedia-rich real-time chat option. The new app would be Facebook’s fourth standalone mobile application.

And while the Snapchat app has been popular among teens, it has also been criticized and called the “sexting app.” But the hosts of The Daily Buzz point out that the self-destructible option only gives people a false sense of security.

“There’s people that are screenshotting these naughty pics, that doesn’t become deleted…. Then there’s this new website that was just created…. It’s called Snapchat Sluts. Mmm, so if you put it out there people are going to find it.”

Facebook is expected to launch its Snapchat-like app before the end of the year.
