Facebook and Twitter have teamed up. A new feature on Facebook has the two social media sites liking each other. PC World reports what it will mean for users...

“Facebook says it will soon let you send your status updates to Twitter, a feature it previously only offered for the Facebook pages curated by businesses, bands, celebrities, and other public figures.”

The feature is part of Facebook’s new “Subscribe” functionality. CNET explains...

“You don’t need to be a friend to follow someone on Facebook anymore. The social network has joined the likes of Twitter and Google+ offering a way to subscribe to someone’s public posts without the person friending you back, and you can choose the type of posts you want to get like photos or status updates.”

A writer for Secaucus New Jersey spells out what this could mean for Twitter.

“Facebook has over 750 million active users. It is a lot bigger than Twitter, which has only 100 million ... allowing this automated updating of Twitter will likely give Twitter more content from many users who otherwise would not have bothered...”

But wait, haven’t we seen these features before? A writer for IB Times says the new Facebook and Twitter move is stepping on another social media giant’s toes.

“The new Twitter and Facebook mashup might be a danger sign for Google, which looks as if it is competing against both Facebook and Twitter for the best social networking website with its own service called Google+... Will it reign victorious, or will it crumble in the shadows of Facebook and Twitter’s new camaraderie?”

Finally, a writer for Slash Gear says the move is more than just a team up. He says Facebook is making a positive statement about their rival--one they haven’t really made before.

“Remember when MySpace opened its doors to Facebook? This isn’t exactly like that, but think about it: acknowledging the fact that a vast amount of Facebook users can’t live without their Twitter? That’s a pretty big deal. Now we get to see how long it takes for Google to react.”
