It’s Elton versus Madonna, round … well, who can keep count anymore?

After telling ABC he would never, ever do the Super Bowl halftime show, Elton John gave some sarcastic advice to this year’s performer - frenemy Madonna.

ELTON JOHN: “Make sure you lip sync good.”

This is the latest bitter banter between the music legends. Gawker provides a history lesson on the superstar spat.

“Oh, snap, girl. Their feud started way back in 2004 when John publicly accused Madonna of lip-syncing in her concerts at an awards show … If he keeps this up, I know one not-so-delicate flower Madonna is going to hate more than hydrangeas.”

John reignited the feud at January’s Golden Globes when he said Madonna didn’t have a, quote, “f-ing chance” of beating him for best original song. After she did, John’s husband -- David Furnish -- ranted about Madonna’s “embarrassing” win on Facebook. (Video: E!)

So far, the blogosphere is siding with Madonna on this one. An iVilliage contributor applauds her for taking the high road - for now.

“Madonna has been mum on the subject. But she does have a big week ahead of her.”

And Crushable suggests it’s time to grow up, Elton.

“As a father Elton might want to learn to let bygones be bygones. Otherwise he’ll end up teaching his son Zachary, ‘If you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all, unless it’s about Madonna. That hack needs be taken down a few pegs.’”

Plus, Slate says Elton doesn’t have much room to talk.

“Elton might not have much room to make jokes about lip-syncing; he and X Factor winner Melanie Amaro plan to pimp out Pepsi for a Super Bowl commercial. That’s about as far from a live performance as you can get.”
