The man who accused the voice and puppeteer of Elmo of underage sex but then recanted is now saying he was pressured into backing off his claims.

“According to TMZ Kevin Clash, the puppeteer for Elmo, paid his accuser $125,000 to recant his story about being under-aged when the two were lovers.”

The gossip site is reporting Sheldon Stephens told his lawyers he was pressured into the agreement, but insists he’s telling the truth about being just 16 at the time of their relationship.

“Stephens -- who is now 23 -- is telling lawyers he will gladly forfeit the $125,000  to restore his name. Stephens is saying he was literally crying during the final negotiations and repeatedly said he didn’t want to sign.”

The Atlantic Wire notes, Stephens’ flip-flopping makes it appear he might just be looking for more money, and he has far less to lose than Clash.

“But Stephens doesn’t have nearly the same reputation on the line as Clash, who actually needs his child-friendly background to continue with a job he’s had for years.”

Clash’s lawyers declined to comment on the story.
