The ship has sunk in Philadelphia. Observers are asking -- how long before the Eagles ditch their captain?
Philly fell to 4-8 Thursday night with another disgraceful performance, this time against the Seahawks. After the game Deion Sanders from the NFL Network says Andy Reid’s unlucky 13th season could be his last in the city of brotherly love.
“They’re losing games, we understand that. But tonight, I saw players shutting that thing down. And when you start losing players and start shutting that thing down, it’s time to really consider what’s next.”
Does Reid deserve all the blame? The Eagles have battled injuries and big egos all season. But a writer from the Boston Herald says Thursday’s embarrassing loss proves it could be time for sweeping changes in Philly.
“Forget the excuses. The real reason the Eagles lost this game: They are not a good football team. They are poorly coached and there is little evidence that the players’ hearts are in this whole enterprise.”
Philly’s off-season spending spree had people saying “Dream Team”. The dream is now a nightmare, and fans are calling for a change. But ESPN’s Adam Schefter says although fans may not like it, Reid is staying put.
“I think that organization has been and continues to be committed to Andy Reid all along. The feeling within the organization has been that Andy Reid would return next season.”
The Eagles are on the verge of going three straight years without a playoff win. A writer from Sporting News says Reid’s lack of postseason success is finally catching up to him.
"...Unfortunately, the NFL is a win-now, what-have-you-done-for-me lately league...Through Reid’s consistently successful tenure, there’s a perception that even in the best years, the Eagles fell short of what could have been.”
