A California dad, Sloan Briles, is charged with felony child endangerment after he flung his 7-year-old son off a tour boat.
CBS has more.
“Briles, his girlfriend and his two sons were on a cruise Sunday afternoon at Newport Harbor. Police says Briles had been drinking and threatened to throw his son overboard if he didn't stop crying. And he did throw him overboard.”
When asked to explain -- Briles saw it as an opportunity to showcase his sarcastic sense of humour. He said he was trying to kill his son -- then denied it. KTLA wasn't crazy about his joke.
Reporter:"Were you trying to kill him?" Dad:"Yeah, I was trying to kill my son. No, of course I wasn't trying to. We were playing in the shallows." Reporter:" Why would someone make up that he was crying and you were hitting him if that wasn't true?"
In an exclusive interview with The New York Daily News, Briles's girlfriend defended him saying that his children are Briles's whole life.
“He would never ever do anything to hurt them on purpose. He knows now it could have gone badly. He doesn't even care about the arrest or his own name. He knows it was stupid."
After a dispute over what Briles did, Fox News got him to apologize to his son.
Host:" If your sons are watching, Sloan and Jennifer, If your sons are watching and you say it's a wrong thing, would you apologize to your son, did you apologize to your son?" Briles:"I was not given an opportunity to apologize to my son, because..."Host:" You now have one." Briles:"Now I have it, I would love to apologize."
