Dubbed by many to be the ‘Dream Team’ before the season began-- the Philadelphia Eagles are struggling to take flight this year with an alarming 1-3 record.
KYW in Phildelphia reports fans in the City of Brotherly Love cried foul over the birds following a loss to San Francisco.
ANCHOR: “Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field fans left the stadium feeling defeated after watching the Eagles blow another lead and lose the game by only one point.”
FAN: “It was terrible. I don’t like the play calling whatsoever.”
FAN 2: “This is the second game in a row where we blew it in the fourth quarter and I blame it on a multitude of reasons."
With the team not living up its lofty expectations thus far-- a writer for the NFL Network believes the Philly faithful might be justified in their anger with the franchise.
“Bottom line: The Eagles spent money like crazy during the offseason, landing all the prized free agents you could think of to form this "Dream Team," but all it has produced is one big nightmare for Philly fans. Suffice to say [head coach] Andy Reid and [defensive coordinator] Juan Castillo won't be comped cheesesteaks at Pat's or Geno's anytime soon.”
But it’s not just the fans who are disappointed. ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio had the reaction from the Eagles locker room.
“It was like a morgue. It was like somebody had a death in the family. Nnamdi Asomugha said everybody is very ticked off right now. Everybody on this team is embarrassed. Michael Vick said it’s gut check. Some people got it. Some people don’t. We’re about to find out who has got it.”
So, what’s the problem? Michael Vick had 416 yards passing - and almost amassed 500 total yards. But NBC’s Cris Collinsworth says it isn’t the passing game Philly should be concerned with...
“...[T]hey still have been unable to solve the issues of trying to stop the run. I mean Frank Gore just completely took them apart in the second half. It almost doesn’t matter anymore what you’re doing offensively. You get a comfortable lead in the lead in the NFL, we saw it time after time today, with these huge comebacks.”
Stumbling out of the starting gate. Not playing defense. A blogger for FanIQ says this story sounds all too familiar-- which might mean there is hope for Philly - even though they are currently feeling the Heat.
“In the offseason, both [the Miami Heat and Philadelphia] were able to secure top free agents and players through trades, both were predicted handed championship rings by “experts”, and both have been given ridiculous nicknames by the media. The season is not over, and [Miami started] the season at 8-8.”
