Michael Douglas’ stage four throat cancer diagnosis has been swirling around the media lately — but now the actor is speaking out about the disease. Douglas appeared on ‘The Late Show with David Letterman’ to talk about it.
“I came back and a guy said ‘ahh’ and he said ‘ehh’ let me just take a little clip of that. This all happened within three weeks and got a biopsy and they analyzed it, it’s a stage four which is intense and so they gotta go at it. The things that have changed, as I understand, is the chemotherapy in terms of being able to deal with the nausea, but it knocks you out really hard.”
ABC News took Douglas’ diagnosis as an opportunity to talk more about throat cancer in general.
“…the actor said his doctors told him he had an 80 percent survival rate from a stage four cancer … doctors say the optimistic prognosis is rare in throat cancer, which, if it is associated with smoking and drinking, as the actor suggested, is usually around 60 percent, but only if caught in the early stages.
The Telegraph has reactions from his wife actress Catherine Zeta-Jones who says she was pretty angry with doctors.
“It makes me furious they didn't detect it earlier. He sought every option and nothing was found. I knew something was up. He knew something was up.”
Showbiz Tonight says the interview with Letterman showed true bravery from Douglas who even got some uncharacteristically serious sympathy from Dave.
