One 20-pound beagle pup has miraculously survived the gas chamber. Here’s KVUE.
“Meet Daniel. He’s a stray, 5-year-old beagle who ended up in an Alabama animal shelter. After Daniel didn’t get adopted, shelter officials put him in a gas chamber with 17 other dogs. But unlike the other dogs, Daniel walked out alive.”
Oh -- and let’s not forget this detail.
“And he walked out wagging his tail.” (Video: WCBS)
WCBS talks to a veterinarian who explains one possible reason why Daniel survived.
“Gasses have different weights, and perhaps this pet found an air pocket that was able to keep him comfortable and alive when they opened the door.”
The puppy was then given the name Daniel, after the biblical figure who survived the lion’s den. Daniel is now under the custody of a New Jersey rescue group.
It hopes he will serve as a poster pup against animal euthanasia. Here’s WNBC.
“The group that brought Daniel to New Jersey, the eleventh hour rescue in Rockaway, hopes his story will help bring an end to the use of gas chambers for animal euthanasia.”
And Jill Pavlik, Daniel’s foster mother, promises she will be extra selective with choosing his new home. (Video: NJSL)
“A lot of people are going to want him because of the story. So, it’s gotta be the right place. He’s not just going to go anywhere. I’m a very good foster mom.”
