What began as a minor car accident that spiraled into a sex scandal has now officially ended in a divorce. Tiger Woods and now ex-wife Elin Nordegren are no longer legally married.
We have coverage of the divorce details from TMZ, CNN, MSNBC, ESPN and the San Francisco Chronicle.
CNN’s Rick’s List talks about some of the divorce details — including what will happen to the kids.
“This has been an interesting story to follow. According to divorce documents released just a short time ago, the couple will share parenting duties for their two children.”
TMZ actually has the divorce documents and says the settlement was resolved months ago.
“TMZ has obtained the divorce documents filed in the Tiger Woods split… in which the marriage is described as 'irretrievably broken'. Tiger and Elin Nordegren reached a settlement agreement way back at the beginning of July.”
MSNBC goes on to highlight a statement the couple released talking about their kids.
“There has been a statement from the couple, it reads in part: ‘While we are no longer married, we are the parents of two wonderful children and their happiness has been and always will be of paramount importance to the both of us.’”
A blogger for ESPN says this isn’t really news — an impending divorce was obvious when the sex scandal broke.
“This isn’t news, it’s the last act of Agamemnon — a foregone conclusion. We all knew the divorce was coming, knew it from the time we were told of the second or third cocktail waitress and the second or third event planner and the second or third porn star…”
Although most of the terms of the divorce aren’t public, The San Francisco Chronicle tries to figure out what exactly Tiger lost in the entire scandal.
“We can assume Nordegren will get a hefty settlement now that her divorce is final… of course he lost millions when sponsors pulled endorsement deals… subtract millions, add public humiliation… As for Nordegren, I’d advise her to do something nice for herself with her share of the Woods fortune. Get a nice car. Take a vacation. Buy Sweden.”
