Lady Gaga is well known for making headlines - but this time - it’s a lawsuit.
The ‘Born This Way’ singer had asked her little monsters to help Japan tsunami relief efforts by buying bracelets she designed for the victims.
The Daily Buzz has more...
“Gaga designed the ‘We Pray for Japan,’ wristbands after the devastating tsunami back in March. Well, she sold the wristbands for five bucks and promised to donate all the money, but a class action lawsuit filed in Michigan claims Gaga kept some of the cash.”
A Michigan law firm claims the starlet is duping fans and Japan relief efforts by pocketing the money for herself. Here is E-online.
“According to court docs, Gaga stated that "all proceeds" from the sales of the bracelets would go to Japan relief when in fact such funds failed to materialize, and a majority of the money instead went to "shipping charges" that were in excess of the actual amount required to ship the bands …
Ari Kresch -- one of the attorneys suing Mama Monster -- tells Artisan News how the issue came to the firm’s attention.
“This was something someone contacted us and said they made a donation and bought a bracelet from Lady Gaga and it cost five dollars. They were charged sales tax and he says that ‘I wanted to contribute five dollars but I was charged sales tax and I didn’t know they charged sales tax on donations. So we looked into it.’”
However the information comes across unclear?
A writer for Business Insider reports....
“How 1-800-LAW-FIRM's clients know this is unclear, and they even admit that they have no idea how much money is being used fraudulently. Whether this is true or not, selling those bracelets has helped Lady Gaga already donate $3 million to help the victims of the March 11 earthquake, according to Kyodo News.”
Some wonder if the law firm is the one running the scam here.
As of Tuesday, no one involved in the suit -- besides the lawyers -- had been identified.
The lawyers are hoping to get a class action suit and get the funds to the Japan Tsunami victims.
