Talk about an inconvenient truth. Al Gore may have just spilled the beans on Apple’s upcoming iPhone5. PCWorld has more.
“Gore made reference to the rumored new Apple smartphones on Wednesday during a speech … in Johannesburg, South Africa. The former VP … said, ‘Not to mention the new iPhones coming out next month. That was a plug,’ according to several people who heard the speech...”
So what’s the big deal? According to Mashable it’s not what the former Vice President, who is also an Apple board member, said, it’s when he said it.
"...the fact that the iPhone 5 is going on sale at some point next month currently ranks as one of the world’s worst-kept secrets. But take note: nobody at Apple has officially confirmed it yet.”
And writers at The Next Web think there might be an even juicier bit of gossip hidden in Gore’s slip of the tongue. They wonder, "Did he just say 'iPhones'?"
“...we think that it is certainly possible that this implies that there are two new iPhones in the pipeline. Many rumors recently have been focused on the fact that there are two models being developed, a cheaper, although cosmetically similar, version of the iPhone 4 and a new, redesigned iPhone 5.”
But writers at CNET demand a recount. Pointing out that the former presidential runner up may have been misunderstood.
“Gore, however, could have been referring to the various iterations of new iPhone, which can differ on color or memory size. He didn't specify beyond his single comment on the iPhone.”
Regardless of what he meant writers at UberGizmo believe Apple and new CEO Tim Cook can’t be happy about Gore stealing their thunder.
“We’re not sure if he spoke out of turn or perhaps he was basing this on all the heavy speculation of a possible announcement and launch next month … but if he did indeed slip up regarding the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5, we can’t say that Apple is going to be pleased about that.”
