One of the world’s largest sporting goods retailers is taking guns off shelves near the site of the Sandy Hook school shooting. WTTE has details on the move made by Dick’s Sporting Goods.

“The retailer says it’s removing all guns from locations closest to Newtown, Connecticut. Dick’s says the change comes out of respect for the victims and their families.”

According to a statement issued by the store Tuesday morning, the chain will also suspend the sale of certain “modern sporting rifles” nationwide.

That statement said nothing about changes to the website, but here’s what John Miller encountered on CBS This Morning.

“I’m just doing the web search now. When you go to the page where assault weapons should be, it’s now blank. So, we’re seeing this backlash unfold here.”

News 12 New Jersey reports — another major retailer is joining Dick’s and making a similar move.

“ … Walmart has pulled a rifle from its website similar to the gun used in the Connecticut massacre.”

According to The Star-Ledger, Dick’s did not say how long the ban would last.

CNN reports the move follows reports that investigators were trying to determine whether the gunman in the Newtown shooting, Adam Lanza, tried to buy a gun from a Dick's Sporting Goods store in the city of Danbury, about 12 miles away.”

Dick’s Sporting Goods has more than 500 locations.
