Yo ho yo ho, it’s a pirate’s life for Johnny Depp - but he doesn’t like everything that goes with it. Could Captain Jack be a little camera shy? E! News explains.
“Even though he’s one of the most handsome hunks in the world, Johnny says he can’t stand to strike a pose. Depp is uber dashing on the cover of the newest issue of Vanity Fair, on sale this week. Based on his non-stop hotness in these shots it’s hard to believe the actor loathes every minute of it.”
So Depp feels a little uncomfortable during photo shoots, what’s the big deal? Well listen to what he compares it to in Vanity Fair’s November issue. Fox News has his quote.
“Well, you just feel like you’re being raped somehow. Raped ... It feels like a kind of weird – just weird... But whenever you have a photo shoot or something like that, it’s like – you just feel dumb.”
That comment got people talking. A representative for RAINN, the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network, responds with this:.
"While photos may feel at times intrusive, being photographed in no way compares to rape — a violent crime which affects another American every two minutes… RAINN welcomes the opportunity to speak with Mr. Depp and educate him about the real life experiences faced by survivors every day...”
The VideoGum takes a different approach, poking fun at Depp’s situation saying, Oh yes it’s...
“A horrible, traumatizing, life changing experience, surrounded by hairstylists, makeup artists, and millions of dollars in your size of clothing and whatever kind of champagne and coffee and pastries are your favorites, and then a team of retouchers whose only job is to make you better looking than you already are before they put you on their magazine for a bunch of people to spend their hard earned money on…”
But some, like a writer for Twirlit, argue -- he kind of has a point.
“It’s hard to imagine being followed by cameras and asked to pose for an audience so often and Depp isn’t the first star to liken this ‘exposure’ to the trauma of physical violation. In fact, Kristen Stewart said something similar in an interview last year.”
Depp did issue an apology for the comment. The Huffington Post quotes him as saying...
“I am truly sorry for offending anyone in any way. I never meant to. It was a poor choice of words on my part in an effort to explain a feeling. I understand there is no comparison and I am very regretful.”
And Wet Paint commends Depp for the statement, saying...
“Now that's an apology: No backpedaling, no excuses, just admitting he was wrong and saying sorry.”
