David Wu has finally given in. NewsTsar reports...

“Breaking News: Congressman David Wu will resign from the US House of Representatives. Wu has faced a wave of calls to resign after a report surfaced that a young woman accused him of an unwanted sexual encounter.”

Wu hoped to keep his position until re-election but says the pressure was too much. ABC News details where the stress came from...

“The pressure, though, has been intense. Nancy Pelosi -- the House Democratic Leader -- among others calling on Wu to seriously assess his situation. He saw the writing on the wall. Democrats wanted to make sure that this didn’t evolve into the kind of scandal that engulfed Anthony Wiener."

Wu will hold his place until the debt ceiling issue is resolved -- leaving his last day unknown. That has not slowed the race for his seat, though. POLITICO reports...

“...the race to succeed him in the historically Democratic district has taken on new urgency.
Democratic insiders are already pointing to two front-runners: state Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian... State Rep. Brad Witt is also in the race... Now that a special election has been triggered, more candidates are certain to take a closer look at the race.”

Wu still holds that he did nothing illegal and it was only a personal mistake. He says he is leaving office to take care of his family -- CNN reports...

“Now, however, the time has come to hand on the privilege of high office. I can not care for my family the way I wish while serving in congress and fighting these very serious allegations. The well-being of my children must come before anything with great sadness.”

Regardless of what reason he is citing, fellow democrats were going to call for his resignation anyway. Credit Union Times points out he’s hardly the first to be in this situation...

“Wu, 56, will be the fourth member of Congress to quit Congress this year because of a sexual indiscretions. Sen. John Ensign (R- Nev.) resigned after questions were raised about payments made to his former mistress; Rep. Christopher Lee (R-N.Y.) resigned after sending a shirtless photo of himself to a woman via Craig’s List; Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) resigned after sending sexually explicit photos of himself via the internet.”
