Talk about making a splash. Police arrested actress Daryl Hannah outside the White House Tuesday-- after staging an environmental protest. ITN has the details.

“She was amongst other environmental protesters against a proposed oil pipeline stretching from Canada to the US Gulf Coast. The oil pipeline would travel through Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma, carrying an estimated 700,000 barrels of oil a day. Protesters called for clean energy investments instead...”

Good cause or waste of time? A blogger at WizBang suggests Hannah and her fellow protesters may have overlooked one detail.

“What makes Daryl Hannah believe that she can get President Obama to change his policies by  squatting in front of the White House … while the President is in Minneapolis?”

But as the anchors at Jacksonville’s Fox 30 point out, Hannah was probably trying to get more than just Obama’s attention.

SHARON SPILLS: “This actually wasn’t the first time she’s been arrested for ‘environmental’ issues- so, this is something that she’s used to. It’s good- I always think it’s good to be passionate about what you believe in, but, you know, keep things legal, you know? Do them the right way.”
TERA BARZ: “Well, she’s trying to- she knows the press is gonna follow her.”
SHARON SPILLS: “Of course. So, I guess she’s trying to get in the headlines, so- hey, it’s here, so we’re talking about it!”

Hannah’s arrest definitely got people talking about the issue- including the anchors at CNN’s American Morning, who weigh the pipeline’s pros and cons.

ANCHOR 1: “You know, when you talk about getting oil from places that are friendly, there are a lot of people who say, ‘Why don’t we get more oil from Canada?’ But there are opponents who say, it’s getting better. It’s getting a lot cleaner, but it’s still a-
ANCHOR 2: “I think Daryl Hannah’s gonna lose this fight. Just my guess.”
ANCHOR 1: “But there are a lot of- I mean, there’s a growing movement of people. There are some mayors, there’s some governors who say we don’t want this- what they call- dirty oil. But, oil’s dirty from everywhere, you know? It’s either friendly dirty oil or unfriendly dirty oil”
ANCHOR 3: “Right- do you want it from the Saudis, you know, where you’re competing with China or around the world? Or, do you want it from Canada on the oil sands?”
ANCHOR 2: “Tree hater!”

A blogger for The Huffington Post argues-- this could be the trickiest decision of Obama’s time in office.

“By denying the permit for the pipeline, President Obama can take a concrete action against climate chaos without securing one Republican vote, without spending one tax dollar, without getting approval from the Tea Party. If, on the other hand, [he] were to approve the permit for the pipeline... It would be President Obama, standing alone, breaking a campaign promise to act...”

Police released Hannah less than 24 hours after the arrest- after she paid a $100 fine. Still no word on when Obama will make his decision on the pipeline.
