It seems Daniel Radcliffe has worked his magic once more - this time without the wand.
The 22 year old actor is Entertainment Weekly’s 2011 Entertainer of the Year. The Harry Potter star turned Broadway sensation, competed with 18 other big names including Adele and the cast of Bridesmaids. Good Morning America agrees with the choice -- and explains why Radcliffe deserves the award.
"Congratulations, Daniel Radcliffe.
There's nothing he can't do. And i'm so excited to see what he does next.
You really believe this is the guy we'll see for years to come? He's interested in doing the work, despite all of the wealth and fame as a teenager. He never derailed, he never got busted, he never went outside without his panties on.
Thank you for not doing that, daniel.
Right.
In the world of music, Adele, a huge year.
Adele. If it wasn't Dan Radcliffe, Adele would have been the entertainer of the year."
But anchors on KTTV were surprised by the selection.
Before that I want to ask you who do you think is the entertainer of the year? Entertainment weekly decides not Howard Stern. Not Howard. I was surprised by this.
Regis Philbin.
Hugh Jackman is on the list. Daniel Radcliffe, Harry Potter.
I could have been here all day."
Hollywood Dame wonders if Radcliffe deserves the award -- singer Adele had been a frontrunner.
“Radcliffe narrowly beat Adele for the spot. Julia Roberts threw in an essay to have the ‘Rolling in the Deep’ singer awarded the title, but Dan was the mag’s top choice. (Must have been [Adele's] American beer snubbery that put the nail in that coffin.)”
But Hollywood.com argues that this is more of a career recognition for Radcliffe.
“If you think about it, this was a long time coming for the young actor. For the past ten years, we've watched Radcliffe grow from a shy, little boy to a strong, prominent figure in the industry.”
