Who’s ready to rumba? ABC has announced the latest slate of contenders for Dancing With the Stars. The list includes...

Talk show host Ricki Lake...

Basketball star Ron Artest- you know, the guy who wants to go by “Metta World Peace”...

And singer Chynna Phillips.

Hulu’s Morning After crew give their take on why some other stars decided to sign on.

BRIAN KIMMET: “Yeah. No. Now, how about Rob Kardashian?”
GINGER GONZAGA: “Oh, simple- to follow in the Kardashian tradition and meet and marry a sports star, obviously. Speaking of sports stars, what about soccer player Hope Solo?”
BRIAN KIMMET: “Well, obviously she’s there to fend off the sequin-clad advances of Rob Kardashian. Now, how about David Arquette?”
GINGER GONZAGA: “Uh, misguided attempt to win Courtney Cox back. Elisabetta Canalis.”
BRIAN KIMMET: “Oh- she’s there to teach people her name isn’t pronounced ‘George Clooney’s ex-girlfriend.’”
GINGER GONZAGA: “That’s where I know her from!”
BRIAN KIMMET: “Yep. And finally- Nancy Grace.”
GINGER GONZAGA: “Oh, obviously...”
BOTH: “...for people to lose more respect for her as a lawyer.”
GINGER GONZAGA: “Oh, jinx!”

Yep- Nancy Grace. A Baltimore Sun blogger justifies the casting choice, saying-- the show’s got to get ratings somehow.

“In the grand tradition of Kate Gosselin and Bristol Palin, ABC is now rewarding Grace for being bad -- and not just bad, but over the top bad with the ‘devil dancing’ talk … It is such a simple and calculated formula, but it works every Nielsen-loving time, because we have become such a hating culture.”

After E! Online posted the full list of stars, its website was flooded with comments calling this the “worst cast ever.” But the site was quick to defend the series, saying-

“You're forgetting you just can never tell about a DWTS cast until it's on the dance floor … You're overlooking that the very people you've either forgotten about and/or never heard of can turn out to be popular crowd-pleasers like Kyle Massey, Ty Murray and Cristián de la Fuente.”

And as Richard Roeper asks in the Chicago Sun Times, does the cast even matter?

“...obviously there’s something compelling about the show … Any time you can find a franchise that can cut through the clutter of a thousand channels and a hundred other entertainment options, kudos.”

The thirteenth season of Dancing With the Stars kicks off September 19. To see a full list of this year’s competitors, click our transcript section.
