Robin Williams did it. Then Martin Lawrence tried it. So did Rob Schneider.
Now it’s Adam Sandler’s turn to don lipstick and a wig, cross-dressing for his new flick, “Jack and Jill.”
But critics everywhere are blasting the movie. An anchor for HLN explains.
“Critics hate it. They hate it! Even with Al Pacino in it! They say it’s lazy and stupid and a soul-sucking disaster. There’s something for everybody in that sentence.”
The Rolling Stone’s Peter Travers was one of those critics who was especially harsh.
“On a scale of 1 to 10 on the laugh meter, "Jack and Jill" is a negative 10. A total bust, a stupefyingly unfunny and shamelessly lazy farce packed with cringe-worthy jokes and overt product placement.”
The movie has also inspired parodies, like this mash-up with “Patton.”
SANDLER: “I gotta pick Jill up at four in the morning.”
HOLMES: “She comes once a year and she’s leaving on Sunday.”
Patton looks around theater for exit.
NARRATOR: “But during the holidays, there’s no escaping it when it’s your sister. Your twin sister.”
MALE SANDLER: “How we doin’?”
FEMALE SANDLER: “Are you going bald?”
Patton cringes in anguish.
“Jack and Jill” has a rating of 4% on Rotten Tomatoes, which means 2 out of 52 critics approved it. A writer for Entertainment Weekly thinks the movie is almost too absurd to be real.
“Actually, it felt more like something out of a South Park episode in which they’d parody the mind-boggling absurdity of most Sandler flicks. (“Adam Sandler is his own twin sister… and Rob Schneider is a stapler!”)”
Though the vast majority of critics are begging you to stay away -- one writer for “Media Mikes” says an unsung hero saves us from a double dose of Sandler.
“The premise gets annoying after awhile, but that is when Pacino shows up to make things interesting.”
“Jack and Jill” hits theaters Friday.
