Nicknamed the “Schmemmys” by former host Kathy Griffin, the Creative Arts Primetime Emmy awards were handed out Saturday night. While the show recognizes behind-the-scenes technicians, it also recognizes big-name stars in categories that don't quite fit in the Primetime Emmy telecast.
“As day turns to night, things like, oh, the Primetime Creative Arts Emmys happening right below us.Yes, that's the red carpet for all of those unsung heroes. Lighting and costume and so many like the crew here doing amazing job for us and our live show, they were honored for all of the great television performances”
With categories ranging from Best Prosthetic Makeup to Best Choreography and best Guest Actor and Actress, here are some of the night’s big winners...
From the Montreal Gazette: “Boardwalk Empire won seven Emmys Saturday at the creative arts ceremony, in primarily technical categories. The show’s haul included awards for its casting, makeup, art direction, editing and visual effects.”
From the LA Times: “Reality series "Deadliest Catch," which airs on Discovery Channel, held its own, taking home four trophies, including noncompetition reality program”

From E! Online: “Paltrow, Glee's in-demand sub, was deigned more Emmy-worthy for Guest Actress in a Comedy Series than either the show's Dot-Marie Jones or Kristin Chenoweth, both of whom were also nominated.”
A writer for Examiner doesn't agree with the Academy, and says one of Paltrow’s costars deserved the award more than she did.
“…her award was slightly less impressive since her episodes of the show weren't actually the best. (Dot-Marie Jones should have won, but she does not have the name "Gwyneth Paltrow.)”
A Deadline writer says the best award of the evening was for the once-canceled comedy Futurama.
“Tonight’s ceremony was also highlighted by the big comeback of Futurama. Nine years and one cancellation after it won its first Emmy for best animated program, Futurama did it again for its first season on Comedy Central, the cable network that resurrected Matt Groening’s comedy 7 years after Fox axed it.”
The Creative Arts Emmys will air September 17th on Reelz, and the Primetime Emmys will hand out 25 awards on September 18th on FOX.
