This summer American restaurant chains took political stances on social issues, but now, one is voicing its opposition to health care reform. Pizza chain Papa John’s is urging people to eat at its restaurant Friday in protest to Obamacare. WHAS has more.

“Now this all comes after owner John Schnatter came under fire for saying some Papa John’s franchises might decide to cut workers hours to avoid providing health insurance under the new Affordable Care Act.”

More than 19,000 Facebook users say they plan to eat at Papa John’s Friday to support Schnatter, who says President Barack Obama’s health care reform law will cause the price of pizza to increase by 11 to 14 cents while forcing restaurants to cut employees hours.

The event’s description reads“Obamacare is a fiscal nightmare and because of it, many small businesses aren’t hiring now. Some are even closing their doors … [so] we propose that November, 16th, 2012 be National Papa John’s Appreciation Day. ... Let’s send a clear message this Friday, like we did on Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day, that we are here to stay and that we won’t stop fighting.”

Politico reports the event is organized by Rebooting America, a new conservative group that formed the day after the presidential election.

The group’s president told Politico … “We’re standing up for a business owner that was bold enough to tell investors and the American people that the Affordable Care Act will hurt profits … ”

A blogger for U.S. News and World Report says Papa John’s isn’t the only one cutting hours — Franchises such as Denny’s, Red Lobster, and even Walmart have expressed similar positions.

“What these companies and their owners are missing is personal responsibility … How many zeros is in CEO John Schnatter's paycheck? Or that of the Walmart CEO? This is a company that even during the recession posted profits … Pay your employees instead of endorsing candidates for president who lose.”

Some left-wingers organizing on Reddit have promised to boycott Papa John’s and other chains should they continue to promise they will cut employees hours and benefits because of Obamacare.
