Sid the Kid is down again.
Sidney Crosby’s concussion symptoms are back and many wonder whether his future in the NHL is at risk. ESPN’s Barry Melrose says trouble looms for the former league MVP.
“It wasn’t like he took a gigantic hit to the head again for this to happen. That’s what worries me. Obviously it doesn’t take a lot to give him the concussion symptoms again but Pittsburgh will overcome this and make the playoffs, but all of us are hoping that this is just a blip in the radar and Sydney will be back sooner than later.”
The 24-year-old All-Star was sidelined with a concussion for 61 games earlier this year before returning to the ice last month. Crosby had 12 points in eight games before the symptoms returned last week. Now a writer from Yahoo! Sports asks: Will he ever be the same?
“Will he ever feel 100 percent again, given that one knock to the head has knocked him out of the lineup; and if that's the case, what does it mean for his own expectations and/or the rest of his NHL career?”
The Penguins will once again be forced to go at it without their captain. But for how long? While Crosby gave no timetable for his return, an analyst from NHL.com says all signs point to a quick comeback.
“The encouraging part here is Crosby spoke about how he passed his Impact test, which is the baseline concussion test and that’s good news. He also said if he had to compare to how he felt in say, August, he feels much better now than he did then. However Crosby’s going to take a very cautious approach here. He knows exactly what 100 percent feels like and that’s what he wants to get back to.”
It might be a quick comeback - but a writer for CBS Sports says Crosby’s recurring head injuries will follow him throughout his career.
“He'll never get over the concussions that kept him out for almost a year. He might one day physically, but the questions will forever persist any time that Crosby takes a hit.”
