Next time you use a personal computer… be careful! That’s the headline from the American Journal of Preventive Medicine… or is it? Get this – more than 78 thousand people were injured by a computer, in a 13 year period. TIME online notes the report with this satirical picture of a woman crushed by a computer.
“… among adults, hands, feet, arms and legs were the most frequently wounded parts of the body…”
But the TIME image may have really missed the point… if you dig deeper into the story… as U.S. News and World Report says in the headline – Is your computer hazardous to your kids’ health?
“Children under age 5 were most likely to be hurt, and the injuries were caused by tripping over cables or equipment, being hit on the head by a falling computer monitor, or getting caught on equipment…”
But U.S. News and World report wasn’t exactly perfect either. On another part of their website… they had the headline… “Look Out! Computer Injuries Spike” – yes… that’s on the same website.
Times Online… shouts – Oh No! My Computer Crashed Again! And points out injuries are finally beginning to lessen as a result of lighter equipment and fewer cables…
PC Magazine cuts right to the chase… saying Parents, Better Baby-Proof Those PCs.
“Make sure furniture and heavy computer components are anchored… and if you’re carrying a computer – make sure your pathway is clear…”
