Just days removed from their son opening fire inside his Colorado high school and with a victim still clinging to life, Karl Pierson's parents expressed their remorse Monday.

Police say Pierson entered Arapahoe High School Friday afternoon with a shotgun, machete and three Molotov cocktails looking for the school's debate coach after a dismissal from the team earlier this year.

The Pierson family statement goes on to talk about Davis and her family, saying, "They, and she, have suffered unimaginably, and we pray for her full recovery. We also pray for the entire Arapahoe High School community, as we know your lives are forever changed by this horrific event." (Via KUSA)

The Denver Post also reports Pierson's father called the newspaper saying he and his ex-wife attended disciplinary hearings for the young man.

Mark Pierson told the paper school officials should have to answer questions about the interactions they had with his son.

An autopsy released by the local county coroner's office Monday confirmed Pierson committed suicide turning the gun on himself after he shot his classmate Davis.
