Amber Branson went into labor while coaching a high school girls’ semi finals basketball game. After the win, she delivered her 8-pound, 7-ounce baby girl at a hospital -- then it was back to the court the very next day for the championship game.
HLN: “A Texas coach was back on the sidelines just 16 hours... AFTER GIVING BIRTH. Atta woman!”
HLN: “She’s wonderwoman Ray!”
“Yeah, Robin, she is my new hero, I tell you what.”
KEYE:“That is dedication.”
“Wow... no kidding."
Many have questioned Branson’s decision -- for her health and the baby’s -- to leave the hospital so quickly. She explains her move on ESPN:
AMBER BRANSON: “I know a lot of people say it’s just a game, but at the high school level these girls are like my own children. But I just wanted to be there if I could, God-willing, to see them compete and succeed.”
Texas media is hailing Branson as a supermom -- as tough as they come. But up north, the NBC’s weekend Today Show team is still wrapping its head around the whole thing:
JENNA WOLF: I don’t have kids... I, I can’t even-- I have a cold I take three weeks off. I can't even imagine!
LESTER HOLT: I have kids, but I’ve never been through labor. So I’m impressed.
WOLF: So neither of us have any idea what we're talking about
And a mom blogger on Babble agrees childbirth isn’t supposed to be that easy.
“I don’t know about too many other moms, but 15 hours after I gave birth I was zoned out on narcotics, bleeding heavily and trying to avoid coughing so as to not disturb the staples from my c-section.”
But a Statesman report makes it sound like Branson is no stranger to a little court-side pain.
“Branson ruptured her appendix as a freshman — and started a game 11 days later.”
So what do you think? Is Branson the most dedicated coach ever - or just one basketball-crazed mommy?
