A nightmare on Christmas day. A shooting in Grapevine, Tx. left seven people who may have been related -- dead. Here’s KFMB with the latest.
“The motive remains unclear for a Christmas morning shooting that left seven people dead. Investigators believe the victims were in the process of cleaning up wrapping paper after opening presents when they were shot. The bodies of four women and three men have not yet been identified. The victims range in age from 18 to 60. The shooting is being investigated as a murder suicide.”
And a reporter for Dallas NBC affiliate KXAS describes the grim scene in that apartment...
“The victims were seated around and lying on the floor around what looked like the remnants of Christmas morning. Newly opened presents and wrapping paper, scattered around the room. Also on the ground: two handguns. A source with knowledge of the investigation reports that the suspected shooter was dressed as Santa Claus.”
A reporter for KHOU talks to a Grapevine police officer who explains how the police came to be at the scene.
Officer Eberling: “I’ve been with this police department for twelve years. This is probably the most tragic thing that we’ve, you know, I’ve certainly been involved with.”
KHOU: “Grapevine police responded to an open line 9-1-1 call around 11:30 Christmas morning. One possible theory, police told News 8, was that one of the victims dialed 9-1-1 in their final moments.”
And finally, KDFW has the neighbors’ comments and notes the timing of the incident.
“Neighbors did not have much to say about the family, other than that they were usually quiet... Police say this is a horrific crime, regardless of the day, but the fact that it occurred on Christmas only seemed to amplify things, made them worse.”
Police say investigations are ongoing and that they are waiting for a search warrant. The shooting has been named the worst in Grapevine history. The suburb calls itself the Christmas capital of Texas.
