Androids? iPhones? No thanks, says China -- we’ve got our own smartphone.

It’s called the K-Touch Cloud-Smart Phone W700.-- a wordy title three years in the making by Alibaba -- one of China’s largest e-commerce companies. But three years could be well worth the wait. According to PCWorld,

“The Aliyun OS not only can run Android apps, but it can also run Web-based apps built with HTML 5 or JavaScript.”

But the K-Touch isn’t just an alternative to Android. The Aliyun OS uses a cloud network -- which allows users to store and pull data off a server independent from the device. CNET reports,

“AliCloud’s operating system revolves around the idea of bringing cloud functionality to the mobile platform...Aliyun will feature cloud-based email, Web search, weather updates, and GPS navigation tools...it will offer customers 100 GB of storage at launch.”

ChinaTechNews.com explains the cloud technology...

“...allows users to run the applications without downloading them to mobile phones. Users only need a unified cloud account and they can run various applications on the operating system platform via the mobile internet.”

And who says you can’t put a price on innovation? With a price tag of more than $400, the K-Touch ...

“...will go on sale in China at the end of the month, kicking off competition with Apple Inc. Google Inc. and Microsoft Corp.” (Source: Wall Street Journal)

But for those outside China-- don’t be jealous. All Things Digital reports-- Alibaba is willing to share.

“Alibaba is working on an English-language version of Aliyun and hopes to have it finished by the end of this year.”
