Leave a tooth under your pillow and you can expect a quarter, 50 cents, maybe even a dollar. Put a tooth up for auction, well the tooth fairy might have to refinance her wings to pay for it. At least if the tooth belonged to a famous rocker. Here’s KSBI.
“Want to own a piece of john lennon? If you have an extra 16 grand on hand next month when it goes on the auction block.”
That’s right. John Lennon’s pearly whites -well, white- could be yours if you can make it to Omega Auctions on November 5. Apparently the professional rocker performed some amateur dentistry on himself, then gave the product to his houskeeper. WJBK has more on that.
“He pulled the tooth himself and gave it to his housekeeper. I don't know why, if the tooth was loose, giving him pain, the housekeeper wanted a momento...
He did this as an adult?
Apparently.”
The housekeeper, Dot Jarlett, has hung on to the chomper since the late 60s. Apparently, he asked her to toss the tooth, or, since her daughter was a fan, give it to her. But, who would want a tooth? The Houston Chronicle says, you’d be surprised.
“There was the lock of Elvis’ hair that sold for $15, 000 at a Chicago auction. Then there was the girl-on-girl kiss Charlize Theron auctioned off for $140, 000. And the gross$14,000 piece of chewed bubble gumformerly masticated by princess of pop Britney Spears.”
Still, Karen Fairweather, an employee of Omega Auctions couldn’t think of a more bizarre item than Lennon’s famous fang. She tells the BBC...
“This is the most wonderful and weird item that we have ever had for sale. It is a truly unique item and it is really difficult to put a value on it. We are expecting it to achieve at least £10,000 but it is not unknown for these items as rare as this to reach six figures."
For the record, the exchange rate on £10,000 is nearly $15,700. But hey, when you’re changing that much money over, it’s like pulling teeth.
