Charlie Sheen’s signature catchphrase “winning” didn’t exactly get him very far during a Comedy Central roast Saturday night.
The actor looked on as fellow celebrities and comedians roasted his sex life, drug use, and his very public breakdown. KCBS has more.
Reporter: “Back in front of the cameras tonight: Charlie Sheen and his all too real reality show.”
Charlie Sheen: “Just bear with us. We won’t work out the kinks.”
Steve-O: “It’s unprecedented melt down on a scale the world has never seen.’”
Once TV’s highest paid actor on the comedy series ‘Two and a Half Men,” Sheen was fired in March after his infamous meltdown in which he coined the phrases “tiger blood” and “winning.”
During Comedy Central’s roast, it was Sheen’s turn to listen to quite a few personal jabs about himself. KSWB explains...
Reporter: “The man himself seemed kind of subdued tonight... They say they may not make you cry but will make you sweat...?”
Charlie Sheen: “Oh...okay.”.
Reporter: “Is there anybody in particular that you’re worried about on the roasting list?”
Charlie Sheen: “Everybody.”
Reporter: “Who should watch out for you?”
Charlie Sheen: “Everybody.”
Despite the personal subject matter behind the jokes, Entertainment Weekly reports-- Comedy Central’s Jeff Ross said the point of the roast was to give Sheen a dose of tough-love medicine.
“These roasts are often therapeutic for a person… These are things he needs to hear. No one deserves to be roasted more than the warlock. I see this as a comedy intervention. This is the first step of what you could call a comeback.”
A writer for Gather thought both Charlie Sheen and Comedy Central could have done a lot better to enhance the entertainment value of the event.
“In short, the roast actually sounds pretty lame, and it's a real shame Comedy Central couldn't get bigger names for the event. It might have been just as entertaining (and cheaper) to give Charlie his own Comedy Central special, allowing him to rant about Adonis DNA, tiger blood, trolls, and his boogers to his heart's content.”
But did Sheen gain anything from the roast? USA Today reports Sheen ended the night by doing away with his popular catchphrases-- including “winning.”
“I’m done with the ‘winning,’ because I’ve already won. This roast may be over, but I’m Charlie Sheen and in here burns an eternal fire… I just have to remember to keep it away from a crack pipe.”
Comedy Central will air Charlie Sheen’s roast on September 19th -- the same night "Two and a Half Men" premieres.
