Ever wanted to shush Snooki or cut off the Kardashians? Well, here’s your chance. Inventor Matt Richardson explains his ‘Enough Already: Silencing Celebs’ remote to MakeMagazine.com.

“Now any time a keyword is mentioned, the TV will mute for 30 seconds. And- if during that 30 seconds the key word is mentioned again- the timer resets, ensuring that we only un-mute the TV after we haven’t heard the keyword for a full 30 seconds.”

Richardson plans to unveil the device at this month’s Maker Faire in New York. The technology’s nothing new- remember when you could block any mention of Charlie Sheen from the web a few months ago? But as the Huffington Post suggests- this could be big.

“Richardson's ‘Enough Already’ could also be used to block commercials and other irritations on mainstream television. The possibilities are truly endless with this invention, but only if you can figure out how to install it at home.”

The device does require some techy know-how to install- but a Tom’s Hardware blogger argues it beats the alternative.

“It isn't a perfect solution … But if you have less than a hundred bucks and some patience, it's a pretty elegant solution to a problem that might otherwise be solved only be throwing your TV out the window.”

And a writer for MSNBC’s GadgetBox offers some other suggestions- but cautions against taking the technology too far.

“We also can see this coming in handy for election year coverage or for parents trying to protect their children from inappropriate language. Of course, blocking out annoying celebs, politicians and foul language means you’ll probably be watching the DirecTV customer information channel exclusively. Good times.”

So can this gadget be more than just a mute button? At least one YouTube user who watched Richardon’s tutorial seems to think so, writing-

“Of course, you could modify this so that when there's a ‘hit’ on a keyword, it activates a video recorder. Then you could get a sort of digest of subjects that interest you without having to slog through all the other crap on TV.”

No word yet on when you’ll be able to buy the celeb silencer. In the meantime, you can make your own following Richardson’s step-by-step instructions. Find the link in our transcript section.
