For the past seven months, former Miss California Carrie Prejean has been making headlines.
We fill you in with coverage from CNN, NBC, FOX News, The Young Turks and ABC. Throughout the release of her book, the leak of a sex-tape, and her threatening to walk off the set during an interview with Larry King, Prejean is either cast as courageous or hypocritical.
But, first it was this comment that started it off.
“In my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that’s how I was raised and that’s how I think that it should be – between a man and a woman” (MSNBC)
FOX News has perspective on why she wrote her book.
"She lost her Miss California USA crown, and endured endless attacks from against pageant officials and the media, many of whom sought to destroy her because she didn’t agree with their agenda. Today Carrie is opening up in her new book called 'Still Standing: The Untold Story of my Fight against Gossip, Hate and Political Attacks.'"
Two weeks ago, right before Prejean was set to appear on major TV networks to promote her new book - a sex tape was leaked. CNN's Showbiz Tonight's calls her a hypocrite.
“The new queen of family values made a graphic tape. TMZ today posted excerpts of Prejean’s new tell-all book, which among other things, bashes pornography. Hyla, when I hear that I’m thinking it's about time to officially crown her Carrie Prejean 'Miss Hypocrite 2009'- uh AJ you are giving her way to much credit. She's not a hypocrite, she’s an idiot. She already dealt with this with topless photos. She just made the same mistake again. She completely lost her mind."
The Young Turks agreed with CNN and said that she was saying one thing and doing another.
“She went on this moral crusade, that is the unacceptable part. Yes, that is the unacceptable part. She went on FOX News and talked about how she is a goodie goodie, and a perfect child of God. She went to the conservative conferences and talked about family values and stuff and all this time she knows that there is this sex tape out there where she is doing the nasty.”
Prejean defended her sex tape on most of the major networks. Here is what she told NBC's "The Today Show."
“You can call it whatever you want to call it, if you want to call it a sex tape that’s fine. It was me by myself, there was no one else with me. I was not having sex. I sent it to my boyfriend at the time. I was a teenager. I cared about him. I trusted him. But the main point is that there has been a campaign against me to try and silence me for the past seven months.”
Then last week Prejean threatened to walk off "Larry King Live." King began asking her about the $1 million lawsuit she dropped against Miss USA and if she did so because they obtained the sex tape. Jimmy Kimmel brings his comedic perspective
“She wound up like taking to take off her microphone and then it went all downhill from there. Yeah, I think that you are being extremely inappropriate right now, and I am about to leave your show. I didn’t mean to be inappropriate; I just thought it was a logical question. Who are you talking to? Let’s get out of here baby. Interview is over Oprah. Inappropriate.”
So what do you think? Is Prejean a victim of the media? Or did she bring all of negative publicity upon herself?
