A car bomb exploded in a crowded Pakistani market on Monday. WRC reports.

“At least 17 people are dead, 44 others injured from a car bomb. That bomb went off at a bus stop. This was near the office of a top political official in the area. It is not known if that political official was the target.”

Some reports suggest the bombing is in response to another assault. Al Jazeera explains.

“Now it comes less than 24 hours after the security forces foiled another attack by the Pakistani Taliban on Peshawar International Airport.”

While the intended target is unclear, reports indicate it is known who the victims were. Here’s the BBC.

“All of the dead, it appears, were civilians — including, as you say, women and children. … There were no security forces or bases of security forces close by.”

According to a report from The New York Times, the two attacks combined left at least 32 people dead and more than 80 wounded,highlighting the challenges facing the security forces in the run-up to general elections that are due in the next six months.”

The Associated Press reports the area where the attacks took place is home to various Islamist militant groups. No one has claimed responsibility for the latest attack.
