“Good morning, breaking news. NBC news has learned that overnight Captain Richard Phillips, the American held hostage by Somali pirates tried to escape. This morning, the late breaking details.” (NBC News)

"It’s time to kick the pirates’ butt!" (FOX News)

Hello I’m Charlotte Bellis and you're on Newsy.com

That was video from the Today show and FOX News, talking about the attempted escape of the American captain of a pirated cargo vessel.

The hijacking marks the sixth off the coast of Somalia this week alone.

FOX News anchors asked -- where’s the outrage?

“Something has got to be done the whole world needs to come together and say why have we been letting this happen on our watch? There are 270 hostages currently behind held right now, where is the outrage? ... Apparently if they can do this by just coming up in a little plastic rowboat, it’s working, that’s the whole point, it’s working. So something’s going to have to change and now that they’ve captured Americans for the first time in 200 years, maybe something will change.” (FOX News)

ABC News examined how the pirates are holding the captain...

“…floating in a lifeboat just like this one... only 28 feet long. It could hold 76 passengers but the one now off Somalia’s coast is holding four gun-toting pirates and one hostage... Richard Philips...” (ABC News)

MSNBC talks about how the situation could be changing and intensifying....

“There’s also word more pirates are heading to this area...  a Kenyan diplomat says pirates are using other high jacked boats with captives on board heading right to the scene of this pirates captain standoff because they got a calls for help.  There are other American warships heading to the way...”
(MSNBC)

Should the U.S. Navy take direct action? Should the international community take a more proactive stance and eliminate piracy at its roots?

We invite you to share your thoughts with us and please check out our sources.
