The Kings of Leon have cancelled their US tour after lead singer Caleb Followill left the stage part way though a Dallas show. Clevver Music has the band’s official statement.
“Big update on Kings of Leon, they’ve just announced they’re cancelling the remainder of their North American tour. A rep for the guys said in a statement: ‘We are so sorry to say cancellation is due to Caleb Followill suffering from vocal issues and exhaustion. The band is devastated but in order to give their fans the show they deserve they need to take this break.’”
A blogger for entertainment mag NME thinks the King’s Dallas show could have simply been the straw that broke the camel’s back -- and now might be the perfect time for a break.
“First things first: there's clearly a lot more to Kings of Leon's cancelled US tour than a simple case of heat exhaustion... our gut instinct tells us that this crisis, rather than posing an existential threat, may end up being a positive thing.”
But is exhaustion really such an unlikely cause? The band has released five albums in the past eight years and toured extensively. Not to mention, that the band has already weathered a lot of infighting. 106.1 Kiss FM wonders how much more they can take.
“Jared Followill, Caleb’s bassist and brother, apologized to Dallas and told them to ‘F—ing hate Caleb, not us.’ He went on to elaborate on Twitter, adding ‘There are bigger problems in our band than not drinking enough Gatoraid.’”
Jared later turned to Twitter to tell his followers not to fret, this isn’t the end, just a BRB.
“Don't jump to conclusions guys. We're not breaking up.”
The band’s international tour schedule prevents them from rescheduling the 26 cancelled shows. All tickets will be refunded and Kings of Leon plans to resume their schedule in Vancouver this September.
