“A wildfire alert now and flames are still raging in Santa Barbara, California.” (FOX News)
“More than 13,000 residents have been forced to flee a wildfire burning in Santa Barbara County.” (CNN)
“Overnight, the blowtorch of a wildfire has now destroyed more than 2700 acres.” (ABC News)

Los Angeles television station KTLA reports on the fire’s path:

“It’s obviously a wind-driven fire.  When the sundowners pick up around 3 to 5 o’clock we had 50 mile and hour winds blowing down mission canyon and then that fire exploded up in mission canyon and then went east up over Las Canayos road and then started burning structures.” (KTLA)

FOX News brings one woman’s emotional experience in the face of the flames:

“There were these walls of what looked like about 300-foot-high flames right in front of the house.  The embers were going like this right in front of our front window.  I was going, this is it, say your goodbyes now, and I gave him a kiss on the lips and I said goodbye, Klaus, I’m sorry.  And I didn’t know what else to say, because I really thought, this is it.” (FOX News)

Good Morning America looks at Santa Barbara’s history of big fires:

“Because of its position on the california coast, Santa Barbara gets practically perfect weather year-round.  But they’re also getting used to these massive wildfires.  This is the second one in two years.  Last year’s T-fire took out about 200 homes in this area.” (ABC News)

The Sacramento Bee reports that California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger warned earlier in the week that the state’s budget deficit might force him to cut 1700 firefighting jobs.  He discussed the issue in Santa Barbara Thursday:

“The first thing you should know is, I will always fight and get every dollar I can for public safety, that is the important thing you should know.  No. 2, it is very clear that when the initiatives fail there will be $6 billion less that will be available, so therefore there will have to be additional cuts made.” (Sacramento Bee)
