Police say a southern California woman drugged her husband-- tied him to the bed-- cut off his penis-- and threw it in the garbage disposal.
Here’s KFSN.
Reporter: “48-year-old Catherine Becker is accused of going to her husband’s condo in Garden Grove and drugging his dinner. That caused him to pass out.”
Police officer: “When the police officers went in there they found the husband tied to the bed and bleeding profusely from the groin area.”
And what’s worse-- KTTV reports-- the drugs wore off a little too soon.
Anchor: “Investigators believe Mr. Becker awoke from his drug-induced stupor right before his wife did what she did. He is in the hospital in serious but stable condition.”
While the story moved through the news cycle as one of those headlines-that-writes-itself--
More than one media outlet pointed out-- this love-turned-castration should sound familiar.
Remember Lorena Bobbitt? In 1993, she infamously chopped off her husband’s penis, claiming to be the victim of long time abuse.
“...she was eventually cleared via an insanity defense, and both would become pop culture forget-me-nots ... John Wayne Bobbitt, who’s penis was re-attached, would parlay his dubious fame ... starring in his own XXX film.” (Radar Online)
So far-- no word on whether Mrs. Becker will follow in Bobbitt’s footsteps with an insanity defense. A Stir blogger suggests- that depends on her motive-- and so far, she hasn’t shared one.
“...[she] seems to have thought the whole thing out. The couple were getting divorced and Becker supposedly told police that her husband ‘deserved it.’ Which raises the question: Are there any circumstances under which a man ‘deserves’ to have his penis cut off?”
She faces a slew of charges ranging from poisoning to aggravated mayhem-- which carries a life sentence. As for Mr. Becker- no word on whether doctors will be able to reattach his penis.
