You can have it your way... if your way includes eating better.  Burger King, BK, is branching out.  Wraps, salads, smoothies with real fruit.  A frappe for the coffee lover.  According to USA Today, the burger chain aims to grab more customers with a wider variety and what it deems “healthy.”

“So it was really clear from our consumers that they wanted choices other than just...hamburgers and french fries. They really wanted offerings in every area that had some inherent benefits.”

BK has collaborated with celebrities such as David Beckham in promoting its new additions. Here’s one commercial starring singer Mary J. Blige:

“Crispy chicken, fresh lettuce, three cheese, ranch dressing wrapped up in a tasty flour tortilla...”

But some, such as The Baltimore Sun, are skeptical about the promotion of “healthier options” by Burger King.

“...don’t let Beckham and his rock hard abs be the one to convince you to order the new smoothie...Make sure you check the ingredient menu to see if healthy is really healthy.”

The menu revamp is seen as similar to what the leading fast-food chain in the nation, McDonald’s offers. The Examiner acknowledges similarities between the Burger King and McDonald’s menus, noting that...

“Imitating a competitor can be a dangerous business strategy.”

But not everyone is pessimistic about the chain’s future. An analyst tells MarketWatch...

“...as long as Burger King focuses on ‘evolving’ the menu rather than changing it radically, the shift could be successful.”

Existing food items on the menu will also be given a makeover. The Whopper will be modified to include one thicker slice of cheese instead of two thin ones. Tomatoes and lettuce will also be sliced on site instead of in a commissary.
