Before the first Sunday of the NFL season can even kick off, we have news on who will grace the 2014 Super Bowl halftime stage.

… and a pyrotechnics show worthy of a stadium blackout. (via CNN)

He should start rehearsal yesterday.

But, Mars definitely has the hits to keep up. His debut album Doo Wops and Hooligans charted number 3 on the Billboard Top 200 and the lead single ‘Just the Way You Are’ spent 20 weeks at the top of Billboard’s Adult Contemporary Chart. (via Atlantic Records / Locked Out of Heaven)

And his new album Unorthodox Jukebox hit No. 1 in March on Billboard’s Top 100. Bbut, he can’t just sit behind the piano for half an hour, which begs the question does he have the stage presence for the Superbowl.

The Los Angeles Times believes he does writing, His current Moonshine Jungle tour … showcased Mars at the top of his game. It was arena-worthy thrills without some of the go-to frills that his peers rely on to fill seats (forget backup dancers and acrobatics, Mars and his spectacularly charming eight-piece band do all of the heavy lifting onstage).”

Hopefully so, considering the Superbowl is one of the biggest stages in entertainment, Super Bowl XLVI (46) featuring Madonna at halftime brought in an average viewership of 112 million. (via Nielsen)

Super Bowl XLVIII (48) is set for Feb. 2 2014 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.
